 Omaha Police Department Traffic Unit - Accident Investigation Squad


The Accident Investigation Squad is charged with investigating the following:

 Fatal Crashes
 Serious Injury (life threatening) Crashes
 Conducting follow up on hit and run crashes

 We are located at:

 13605 Millard Ave  (just southwest of 132nd & L St.)
 Omaha, NE


If you are involved in a collision involving injury, death, or damage over $1,000.00 to the property of any one person, state law requires each driver to complete the Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report form DR41.  

Copies of this report can be obtained at any Omaha Police Precinct or a PDF copy can be downloaded here:

The Accident Investigation Squad does not handle property damage crashes or crashes with minor injuries.  If you were involved in a property damage crash or a crash with minor injuries, contact the precinct your crash occurred in or call 911.

If you are attempting to locate a vehicle towed from a crash, please contact the City of Omaha Impound Lot at 402-444-5784.  They are located at 7809 F St.  

Hit and Run Follow-up

 The Accident Investigation Squad conductions follow-up and investigation into all hit and run collisions in the city of Omaha. Any hit and run with even the smallest lead is assigned to an investigator for follow-up.

Omaha Police Accident Investigation Squad Training

 The Omaha Police Department Accident Investigation Squad uses a team of specially trained traffic accident investigators at the scene of serious injury and fatal traffic collisions. Investigators complete hundreds of hours of classroom and practical training to become certified to reconstruct collisions. Several of the members of the Accident Squad are certified through the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR), which is a nationally recognized professional certification.
