Taxicab Operator Permit

The first step is to report to the Front Desk of Central Station, 505 South 15th Street, between the hours of 8 A.M. to 3 P.M.

Taxicab Operator's Permit FAQ's

Q. What do I need to bring with me to submit a taxi application?
A: You must provide a valid Nebraska driver’s license from any county in the State of Nebraska. Or, if your driver’s license is issued in Iowa, it can only be from Pottawattamie County. You must also bring two current (taken within the last six months) passport size photos.

Q. What do I do after I have made the application with the Omaha Police?
A: You will then be required to get a physical by your private physician or your company physician. The doctor will be required to sign the back of the application.

Q. What then?
A: You must take the application to Permits and Inspections on the 11th floor of the Omaha Douglas County Civic Center at 18th and Farnam. Permits and Inspections will then do the final processing and actually issue the permit

Q. Is there any cost involved?
A: There is no cost for the Omaha Police to take the application. Permits and Inspections will require a $4.00 fee for a new permit. If you already hold a permit and wish to renew it, there is a cost of $3.00 prior to the expiration date.

Any person desiring a taxicab driver's permit shall file a signed, sworn application therefore with the permits and inspections division on forms provided therefore. such application shall contain the following:

(a) The name of the applicant, his age and his place of residence;
(b) His present occupation and his occupation for the preceding two years;
(c) Whether his motor vehicle operator's license has ever been suspended or revoked and, if so, the reasons therefore and the dates and periods of suspension or revocation; and
(d) Such other information as the chief of police may require for the consideration of the application.
(e) The following shall be attached to such application:

(1) A certificate from a licensed physician showing the physical fitness of the applicant;
(2) His motor vehicle operator's license; and
(3) A photograph of the applicant.
